On a scale of 1 to 5, how would you rate the overall quality of the Beginners Guide to Invitation Design Course? (1 - Poor, 5 - Excellent) 5, it was packed with so much that goes even beyond the topic of wedding invitations.
How engaging did you find the course material? Very engaging. I wasn't sure if I was even going to get into wedding invites after this but it did get those inspiration juices going and I spent 3 hours last night designing my first one and I love it!
What topic/s did you find the most helpful? Wording and arranging were always going to be my weakest areas so for me those were the topics that most helped me.
Did the course adequately cover various aspects of invitation design, including color theory, typography, and layout? I would say yes. My background was actually in wedding photography for a very long time, and I had developed much of my design experience in those years (in color theory, typography and layout) by designing save the dates, shower invitations, and the mac-daddy of all design projects, the wedding album. It seems to me you've covered many fundamentals of those design topics. Wedding invitations however were never something I did, and even after joining zazzle, wasn't something I was interrested in getting into. But once again, you have inspired me to jump in and I think I'm going to have lots of fun with it.
Were the provided examples and practical exercises helpful in understanding the concepts? Absolutely and I immediately designed my very first wedding invitation during this module.
Did the course provide enough information for you to confidently design invitations for different types of events? Yes! A bonus I didn't even expect. And such a long list of events I really never considered before.
How satisfied were you with the amount of information provided? Very!
Did the course meet your expectations regarding the depth and breadth of the content? It went above and beyond.
Is there any specific topic or area you would have liked to see covered in more detail? Yes, it came to me while doing this module though it has nothing to do with this module. To be completely honest, I would love a module that covers workflow and effeciency because I'm all over the place. With my wedding business I had a strict workflow that I followed to the T that kept me working effeciently and allowing me to move at a decent speed though my editing and design process, but with zazzle for whatever reason I can't seem to nail that down. I bounce from one idea to the next, one store to the other, spinning my wheels in this sort of unorganized fashion where I take one step forward and 3 steps back so my productivity is lacking when I know I should be getting so much more done in the time I'm investing. If you have a brilliant workflow that you use I'd love to learn all about it.
Were there any challenges or difficulties you encountered during the course? none
Do you feel more confident in your invitation design skills after completing the course? Very!
Overall, do you believe the Invitation Design Course provided value? Well it got me to design my very first wedding invitation which was not something I was interested in before so I'd say yes, anything that inspires me to create is valuable to me.
How likely are you to recommend this course to someone interested in learning invitation design? (1 - Not Likely, 5 - Very Likely) 5
Do you have any other comments or suggestions to improve the course content or learning experience? The only thing I can think of is making sense of all the invitation sizes and formats and creating wedding collection with all these matching products. I made my practice invitation on the standard 5x7 then I pulled up the all-in-one and wasn't sure how to make sense of it at first. And since I never play in this area, making a matching collection with all the options (at this moment at least) feels a bit overwhelming.
1. On a scale of 1 to 5, how would you rate the overall quality of the Beginners Guide to Invitation Design Course? (1 - Poor, 5 - Excellent)
5 – There was a lot of good information.
2. How engaging did you find the course material?
The course material is interesting. I have taken graphic design courses before so a number of the items were not new to me. However, for someone who has never taken the courses I have, they stand to benefit a lot from this course material. I still came across things I did not know.
I am aware of the ‘Rule of Thirds’. I agree with it. I find that this rule automatically forces you to organize the information. I have used this rule on landscape oriented corporate invitations. I was happy to find ‘landscape orientation’ in your examples as well.
I agree with font pairing. The fonts should reflect the type of wedding the couple is having and be readable. I remember attending a wedding back in the 1980s. The printer bought a super fancy script font which he used for the couple’s invitations. NONE of us could read the script. Since a normal sans serif was used at the bottom for the church name and reception hall, I went by that and just confirmed the details at the wedding shower. Back then choices were limited but not today. If you don’t put an effort in to be clean with your work both with layout and using a legible font, you will be passed over. At Zazzle that is unlikely to happen that the font itself is not up to par but there are other ways to “sabotage” one’s work which is what this course went into.
3. What topic/s did you find the most helpful?
Using high quality images that you have the right to use matters. There is nothing worse than getting a cease & desist order from the rightful owner. Thankfully this did not happen to me but I know of a designer that had to chase a corporation whose designer took her work and ‘rearranged it’.
Choosing the correct size of the invitation matters. For many corporate events that I have attended, a simple well designed postcard will do.
The original graphic design course I took did not really go into researching trends as the focus was on the type of corporate event it was and which clients the entity was trying to attract. So I did find it helpful in this course to be directed into researching trends. Weddings & showers do change over time. When I look back on the weddings of the 1980s in my own area, they do have differences with what happens today. I was surprised how many weddings around me now take place in the country on farms and ‘destination weddings’. That was unheard of years back as everything was in the city’s “nice banquet halls”.
‘Matching stationery’ is a good list. That is one thing I struggle with.
Keeping colors down to 3 is another good rule. I am a rainbow person and totally love color so rules like that had to be ingrained into me with each graphic design and art course I’ve ever taken.
4. Did the course adequately cover various aspects of invitation design, including color theory, typography, and layout?
Yes, I agree with cultural associations and color psychology. I had to take a ‘cultural communications’ course at university. It was meant for business travellers. Colors and even numbers matter in a lot of cultures. The number “13” is such a taboo number in western culture (USA & Canada) that the 13th seat on an airplane is called “14” as well as the “13th” floor in an apartment or office building.
Typography has to be readable as I have experienced it not being so. White space matters in both invitation design but all around in the online world. Blog posts are an invitation to more, often products and when you don’t make enough of white space, the text becomes hard to read causing most readers to scroll away before they are done. That defeats the purpose so this skill can be transferred to other forms of writing as well.
5. Were the provided examples and practical exercises helpful in understanding the concepts?
Yes. It is with practice that we get better with layouts. I find that even after doing homework assignments, it’s good to let things sit for a few days. Looking at it with fresh eyes helps me to identify areas that need improvement.
6. Did the course provide enough information for you to confidently design invitations for different types of events?
Yes. I had a font teacher who would tell us to think of an emotion and then start writing out a word. It was funny as to how the lettering style changed when you did such an exercise. When you look at fonts from Zazzle’s selection, that is something to keep in mind. What does it remind you of? There is a time and a place for each font. Technically speaking you can use any of them for an invitation. You just need to identify the audience first as well as the type of event you are designing for. So yes, I do think the information provided in this course is helpful.
7. How satisfied were you with the amount of information provided?
I found it to be quite thorough. I like that you also mentioned flourishes. This tends to be left out of ‘font discussions’ when putting a project together.
8. Did the course meet your expectations regarding the depth and breadth of the content?
Yes. I like how you went into where to place the graphic elements as well as suggesting a black and a white overlay text version. I would not have thought of two versions.
9. Is there any specific topic or area you would have liked to see covered in more detail?
I think you covered many different areas of what to look out for when putting together invitations. Many people do not think about mood and tone enough. It’s more that they want to have a similar style to another popular designer but they don’t think about the “Why it is like this”.
10. Were there any challenges or difficulties you encountered during the course?
I found putting together invitations takes practice as you are working around the text with graphic elements. This is something newer to me in practice as I am a fabric designer. I am very use to taking my motifs and scattering them all over the artboard and making sure that they repeat. For invitations, the text comes first and the motifs are placed to enhance the words. This might be why I have started on other products first with my motifs as I have to rethink how I place everything. I have gotten better and I think I will succeed with invitations as well.
11. Do you feel more confident in your invitation design skills after completing the course?
Yes, I do. There are so many personal invitations one can design for. I have an idea for a type of fundraising that would be a micro niche. I have some ideas for graphic elements. Having read so much on the internet about this problem, I am surprised that there has not been this type of genre on Zazzle yet. I plan on pursuing this after the Christmas holiday season.
12. Overall, do you believe the Invitation Design Course provided value?
Yes. I really like the wording suggestions for the different types of invitations. I’m not good at coming up with “fun lines” yet so this is especially helpful.
13. How likely are you to recommend this course to someone interested in learning invitation design? (1 - Not Likely, 5 - Very Likely)
5 – Very likely.
14. Do you have any other comments or suggestions to improve the course content or learning experience?
I can’t think of anything else.
My rating is 5, it was an excellent course!
I found it surprisingly engaging given that I’m not interested in designing invitations, but I still applied parts of it in general design.
I loved the font pairing examples – I already did some font research beforehand, but it was nice to see how you do these things, given that you are way more experienced than me on the Zazzle platform.
Yes and I wish I had such a course available when I tried to design invitations last year.
They were very helpful. I especially liked the lists with invitation themes and occasions in order to brainstorm invitations adequate for my niche.
Yes, I find it a lot easier to design invitations now. I know where to start from, including the market research part.
I am very happy with the information I received and even if invitations are not my niche, they do sell well on Zazzle and I received useful tips for designing other products, more suited to my niche.
Even if I previously felt invitation design is such a huge topic on Zazzle, you reduced it to its essentials when it comes to designing them.
No
None that I can remember.
Yes, I am much more confident. Thank you for taking the time to create this course and share your experience!
Yes, especially if one specializes in invitation design.
5 I am very likely to recommend this course.
I don’t have any for the moment.
On a scale of 1 to 5, how would you rate the overall quality of the Beginners Guide to Invitation Design Course? (1 - Poor, 5 - Excellent) I would give it a 5 as you did an excellent job explaining things, there were a lot of good examples and you covered a lot of ground.

How satisfied were you with the amount of information provided? It was a good amount of info but not overwhelming.
Did the course meet your expectations regarding the depth and breadth of the content? Yes
Is there any specific topic or area you would have liked to see covered in more detail? I would have liked to see you designing on video and explaining why you were making the choices you made. I would have also enjoyed you showing what you would change now on some of your designs compared to what you had done toward the beginning of your journey. I'm very visual and find video format to be my favorite when I am learning about something.
Were there any challenges or difficulties you encountered during the course? No
Do you feel more confident in your invitation design skills after completing the course? I think so . . . I'll be practicing.
Overall, do you believe the Invitation Design Course provided value? It certainly provided value and got me to think differently about a few things.
How likely are you to recommend this course to someone interested in learning invitation design? (1 - Not Likely, 5 - Very Likely) 5 - Very likely
Do you have any other comments or suggestions to improve the course content or learning experience? Just my suggestion from # 9 above regarding video.
1. On a scale of 1 to 5, how would you rate the overall quality of the Beginners Guide to Invitation Design Course? (1 - Poor, 5 - Excellent)
Definitely a 5, however I think the scale owes you a few more points.
2. How engaging did you find the course material?
Love the entire course, there are so many things that I didn’t know about like the variations of text placement and the different font styles and colors I can use.
3. What topic/s did you find the most helpful?
The topic of “The Rule Of Three” was the most helpful for me as I didn’t really know how to balance and organize into three sections. Font Parings was also very helpful. I thought I knew most everything about fonts – WRONG! (still learning every day).
4. Did the course adequately cover various aspects of invitation design, including color theory, typography, and layout?
Most definitely and I am learning a lot.
5. Were the provided examples and practical exercises helpful in understanding the concepts?
Yes, very helpful.
6. Did the course provide enough information for you to confidently design invitations for different types of events?
Absolutely, as I look back on my first wedding invitations, I realized that there is more work to be done.
7. How satisfied were you with the amount of information provided?
Very satisfied.
8. Did the course meet your expectations regarding the depth and breadth of the content?
Yes, it was more than I expected.
9. Is there any specific topic or area you would have liked to see covered in more detail?
Maybe a little more on the fonts. (You covered lots in that area) When I design an invitation, I am really not sure of the size that would be the most readable, it looks good on the monitor, but I am not sure that it looks the same good in real life.
10. Were there any challenges or difficulties you encountered during the course?
No challenges at all.
11. Do you feel more confident in your invitation design skills after completing the course?
Very much so!
12. Overall, do you believe the Invitation Design Course provided value?

13. How likely are you to recommend this course to someone interested in learning invitation design? (1 - Not Likely, 5 - Very Likely)
A big 5!
14. Do you have any other comments or suggestions to improve the course content or learning experience?
No other comments except for a big thank you!!
To 1. The "Beginner's Guide to Invitation Design" definitely deserves a rating of 5 "Excellent" I've been at Zazzle for a while and enjoy designing invitations for common occasions. And I have to admit that I was still able to learn a lot.
To 2. The course material is structured and understandable. I personally find the illustrative examples fantastic because I am a visual person and learn more from what I see than from explanatory text.
To 3. I found the topic of color and the cultural examples the most helpful, as the connections between colors always gave me a headache.
Regarding 4. The various aspects of the invitation design are wonderfully understandable and clearly explained. Personally, I find the order and structure very understandable.
To 5. As already mentioned, the visual examples are excellent and I was able to understand the practical exercises very well.
To 6. Every beginning is difficult. Practice makes perfect. The more invitations I create, the more security and routine I get. Besides my day job, I don't have quite as much time to work on my shop. That's why I'm not progressing as quickly as I would like. But I'm on the right track.
To 7. The amount of information provided is initially overwhelming. That's why I read the course every day and always find new information that I then incorporate into my designs.
To 8. The course more than exceeded my expectations. The wealth of information is enormous. I work on it every day to improve my designs.
To 9. I think that all topics in the course were described in great detail. Thank you very much again for putting in so much effort.
To 10. I didn't have any challenges or difficulties. Of course, after so much information, your head is spinning. But I implemented the teaching material bit by bit. It's like painting by numbers, but takes longer.
To 11. My invitations and accompanying cards now look much more professional. Here is an example: https://www.zazzle.com/collections/119268780484138533
To 12. For me, the invitation design course definitely added value because I now have a lot more information about what to consider when designing invitations.
To 13. Of course I recommend the course. Anyone interested in designing invitations should benefit from this information. Unfortunately, I discovered that some people don't understand when someone tries to help them. Not everyone is willing to learn and take on the work.
To14. All in all, I really enjoyed working through the course and applying what I learned. The course contains a lot of experience and even more work. I am very grateful for this and am happy to be part of this community. Even if I can't invest as much time as I would like, I always read the daily publications from the course participants.
On a scale of 1 to 5, how would you rate the overall quality of the Beginners Guide to Invitation Design Course? (1 - Poor, 5 - Excellent) I would rate it a 5. You covered the basics and added a bunch more information that was super helpful.
How engaging did you find the course material? I thought it was great. You offered so much information that someone who has never designed one before could feel confident at the end of reading it to start plugging away at creating them! There was also helpful information for those who already design them to take into consideration and apply to their designs to bring them up a level.
What topic/s did you find the most helpful? I really liked the font pairings section. So super helpful and those fonts you put together look beautiful when puting them on the invitations.
Did the course adequately cover various aspects of invitation design, including color theory, typography, and layout? Yes.
Were the provided examples and practical exercises helpful in understanding the concepts? Yes
Did the course provide enough information for you to confidently design invitations for different types of events? I have only designed wedding invitations and matching stationery that goes with it. I do see how the information given can be easily applied across invitations for any event. Once I get my footing more with my wedding invitations, I may decide to design for other ocassions, as well.
How satisfied were you with the amount of information provided? Very satisfied. It was informative and enjoyable to read.
Did the course meet your expectations regarding the depth and breadth of the content? Yes
Is there any specific topic or area you would have liked to see covered in more detail? I would like to learn more about font sizes when creating the wedding invitations. When I do research on Z for wedding invitations and the like, some of the text is so small I wonder how they can be read. A font size of 10 is really small and can be a bit difficult to read for some people. I have seen some products with even smaller text. I use a size 10 sometimes but try to use it mainly on easy to read fonts like serif. A guide for font sizes for the layout could be helpful.
Were there any challenges or difficulties you encountered during the course? No challenges yet. Everything seems to work well together from this module.
Do you feel more confident in your invitation design skills after completing the course? Yes
Overall, do you believe the Invitation Design Course provided value? Absolutely!
How likely are you to recommend this course to someone interested in learning invitation design? (1 - Not Likely, 5 - Very Likely) 5
Do you have any other comments or suggestions to improve the course content or learning experience? No, everything was well written and layed out perfectly. You did an awesome job yet again!
On a scale of 1 to 5, how would you rate the overall quality of the Beginners Guide to Invitation Design Course? (1 - Poor, 5 - Excellent) For me a solid 5! It's much more than an Invitation Design Course.
How engaging did you find the course material? I found it very engaging! After reading all the course content, I realized that I can still progress so much by experimenting with other variations and colors.
What topic/s did you find the most helpful? For me, the most helpful are the variations of text placement, I think it's important to vary so the customer can have more to choose from; I'm not very strong on invitation wording, so it's an excellent help for me; I also liked a lot the list os invitation occasions to give me new ideas for other niches.
Did the course adequately cover various aspects of invitation design, including color theory, typography, and layout? For me 100%! Completely in line with my expectations. In my opinion, the text is written with simple words but with a lot of knowledge. Perfect for me that English is not my first language.
Were the provided examples and practical exercises helpful in understanding the concepts? Yes!
Did the course provide enough information for you to confidently design invitations for different types of events? Yes, I will certainly vary the layout of the invitations and enter other niches.
How satisfied were you with the amount of information provided? Very satisfied!
Did the course meet your expectations regarding the depth and breadth of the content? It exceeded expectations as it is not just about invitation design.
Is there any specific topic or area you would have liked to see covered in more detail? This module for me is very complete as it is.
Were there any challenges or difficulties you encountered during the course? No.
Do you feel more confident in your invitation design skills after completing the course? Yes!!
Overall, do you believe the Invitation Design Course provided value? For me, it added tremendous value. I will consult it several times as I do with the previous modules.
How likely are you to recommend this course to someone interested in learning invitation design? (1 - Not Likely, 5 - Very Likely) 5!
Do you have any other comments or suggestions to improve the course content or learning experience? Only a BIG thank you for, again, sharing this amazing and helpful knowledge!
1. 4/5 – don’t take it personally, I hardly ever even give 5 star movie reviews haha.
2. It was engaging because it was a topic I was interested in, and I have a stake in since I've just recently started making wedding invites on Zazzle.
3. I appreciated learning about specific layout types, with different placements of text and graphics. Seeing the examples of white space in action is great. I always learn better from images than walls of text.
4. Yes, I think everything was covered. But as I’m not trading as an invitation designer, I can't be sure.
Maybe, providing ideas on what to put on ‘wrong/unused’ sides of invitations would be good too, as leaving it white won't suit all invites.
5. On page 18, I think it would be more helpful to see image examples for each point. Maybe even laid out in a pair of ‘used pooly’ and ‘used well’ to really make it clear what good design looks like.
6. I think I am more confident, but not 100% confident. I feel like I would need to do more research on specific events e.g. mothers day, to know what fields I would be expected to provide.
I think the font pairing we were shown were mostly applicable to weddings and formal events. It would be good to have some examples of how to pair more wild fonts for kids parties, theme events etc.
7. I would have liked to see more info about weddings, but I know you have linked to your website, and it would be easier to keep that site updated than to update a PDF regulary, so I accept that.
8. I didn’t have expectation since I was still just happy to be getting anything in a free course : )
9. One thing that comes to mind right now is maybe an accompanying video of your invite design process from start to finish.
I was surprised to not really see any detailed look at the Zazzle design space itself. Even though I'm pretty familiar with it, many may not be, and so I thought I would be seeing information on creating and resizing text boxes, making them editable and giving them URL parameters that affect the order they appear on the sale page.
In reading other’s feedback for this module, S Joy mentioned wanting to know more about font sizes, and the insights in that conversation, I found valuable too.
Sheila suggested seeing how you have improved from your very oldest invitations compared to now. I LOVE before and afters, would really enjoy content like that.
10. No issues.
11. This sounds like the same question as #6
12. Yes, it provides value, and I'm sure the more I study it and think about it, the more I'll get out of it. Thank you for providing these free resources.
13. 4/5
14. I noticed some typos and formatting things I wanna address.
Cover Page: The bridal shower invitation doesn’t have a space between the words August and 21st. It's a tiny thing, but considering this is specifically an invitation design course, maybe it should be edited to have that correct spacing.
Page 2: The format of the date is kinda confusing. "two thousand and 20YY" doesn't look right. The day is in numbers (21). The start of the year is in letters (two thousand) then the whole year is in numbers with placeholders (20yy). Just checking if this is correct, as in it is a placeholder we are meant to replace with the words for the year? Page 7: The Subheading on the Similar Styles dot point includes the 'fonts that pair well together' heading a second time, seemingly unnecessarily.
Page 9: The example of Herscel and Futura, the text that says Futura is actually Dongle font.

Yes

10. Were there any challenges or difficulties you encountered during the course?
The cat on my computer!
11. Do you feel more confident in your invitation design skills after completing the course?

Just some info on the correct font size to use, (if there is one!) I know there was a bit about being large enough to be seen, and to be consistent.
1. On a scale of 1 to 5, how would you rate the overall quality of the Beginners Guide to Invitation Design Course? (1 - Poor, 5 - Excellent)
5
2. How engaging did you find the course material?
Very
3. What topic/s did you find the most helpful?
Colour and font pairing. Also, the ability to create designs on the Zazzle site, which I have been somewhat aware of, but never investigated
4. Did the course adequately cover various aspects of invitation design, including color theory, typography, and layout?
Yes, although I have also taken a course covering graphic design, which means I am familiar with some concepts already
5. Were the provided examples and practical exercises helpful in understanding the concepts?
Yes, actually seeing the rule of thirds demonstrated, for example.
6.Did the course provide enough information for you to confidently design invitations for different types of events?
Yes, probably the best starting point having completed the course
6. How satisfied were you with the amount of information provided?
Very, with one caveat, that the list of events is US based, (well, Zazzle is US based), so here are a few suggestions
Thanksgiving Canada is on the second Monday in October
Mother's Day UK is held in March
In many countries, Christmas Eve is just as important as Christmas Day
Also to add Diwali is a festival of light, celebrating victory of light over darkness, good over evil.
Hannukah also involves lights, and celebrates the refounding of the Temple in Jerusalem 2nd Centuary BC. The date changes because the Jewish calendar is different to ours
7. Did the course meet your expectations regarding the depth and breadth of the content?
yes
8. Is there any specific topic or area you would have liked to see covered in more detail?
I believe I have mentioned a couple of areas
9. Were there any challenges or difficulties you encountered during the course?
No, I find challenges arise when I actually start designing for selling. (get out of the classroom and do it for yourself)
10. Do you feel more confident in your invitation design skills after completing the course?
Yes, I may well start, and consider that invitations may well be suitable for instant download. Concerns have been expressed on the Zazzle community site regarding once the customer has your design, they can reuse it, but more difficult if the design is for a specific event and date
11. Overall, do you believe the Invitation Design Course provided value?
12. Yes
13. How likely are you to recommend this course to someone interested in learning invitation design? (1 - Not Likely, 5 - Very Likely) 5
14. Do you have any other comments or suggestions to improve the course content or learning experience?
Not for this module, but for the course as a whole, one subject I would like covered, is store design and content advice

The typography and font pairing will help me so much.
4. Did the course adequately cover various aspects of invitation design, including color theory, typography, and layout?
Yes most definitely.

What topic/s did you find the most helpful?
Since I already am applying a lot of the concepts that are explained in this module, I found the list of invitations occasions very helpful. I’m not into weddings but I didn’t know there were so many possibilities. A lot of the occasions I would think people wouldn’t use invitations so I never designed for them. I have now a very clear path on how to incorporate my illustrations to different kind of events. Also, the color combinations depending on the occasion was an eye opener for me. I didn’t know that and I will pay much more attention to the colors I use in my invitations from now on.
